Dino Staffa

Dino Cardinal Staffa (born August 14, 1906 in Santa Maria in Fabriago , Italy , † August 7, 1977 in Rome ) was a Cardinal Curia of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

After finishing school in Imola , Dino Staffa studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the Pontifical Regional Seminary “Benedict XV.” In Bologna at the Theological Faculty of Bologna, where he was awarded a Dr. theol. doctorate was, and at the Pontifical Athenaeum "Sant'Apollinare" , where he became Dr. iur. utr. PhD. On May 25, 1929, he received the sacrament of ordination through Bishop Paolino Giovanni Tribbioli OFMCap and then worked for two years as a pastor in the diocese of Imola before he was released from 1931 to 1933 for further studies. From 1933 to 1950 he was a pastor in Rome and professor of the history of canon law at the Pontifical Lateran University . From 1944 he was also an auditor at the Roman Rota . 1958 gave him Pope John XXIII. the office of secretary to the curia with special responsibility for the seminaries and universities.

On September 3, 1960 Dino Staffa was by John XXIII. appointed titular archbishop of Caesarea in Palestine . The Pope himself donated his episcopal ordination on October 28, 1960; Co -consecrators were Archbishop Diego Venini , Almsman of His Holiness , and Benigno Carrara , Bishop of Imola.

He participated in the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965 and in 1967 was appointed Pro-Prefect of the Supreme Court of the Apostolic Signature . In June 1967 Pope Paul VI took him . as a cardinal priest with the titular church Sacro Cuore di Cristo Re in the College of Cardinals and appointed him prefect of the Supreme Court of the Apostolic Signature. On May 24, 1976 he became a cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva .

Dino Staffa died on August 7, 1977 in Rome and was buried in his family's crypt in Massa Lombarda near Imola.
