Extraction and presentation
Diphosphorus tetrachloride can be obtained by co -condensation of phosphorus trichloride with copper vapor . The compound is also formed when phosphorus trichloride is exposed to a silent electrical charge in a hydrogen atmosphere.

Diphosphorus tetrachloride is a colorless liquid that smokes in air. At temperatures above 0 ° C the compound decomposes. In a basic solution, the compound hydrolyzes with the formation of diphosphane and P 2 (OH) 4 .
