Dipropylene glycols
The dipropylene glycols (or oxydipropanols) form a group of substances that is derived from the glycol ether . The technical product of the same name (in the singular) is a mixture of three structural isomers.
properties
Dipropylene glycol is a colorless, hygroscopic, viscous, odorless and not very volatile liquid.

Extraction and manufacture
Dipropylene glycols are by-products that are formed in the production of 1,2-propanediol from 2-methyloxirane ( propylene oxide ). The dominant isomer among the by-products is 1,1'-oxydi-2-propanol:
The dipropylene glycol isomer mixture is one of the chemicals that are manufactured in large quantities (" High Production Volume Chemical ", HPVC) and for which the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) collects data on possible hazards (" Screening Information Dataset ") , SIDS).
use
Dipropylene glycol as a mixture of isomers is used as a solvent for odor-sensitive applications such as flavors and cosmetics. It is also used as a solvent and humectant for a variety of cosmetic applications. 2,2'-Oxydi-1-propanol is mainly used as a raw material for various chemical compounds such as polyester and urethanes. It is a solvent for cellulose acetate , nitrate and pesticides.
