Dirk Brömmel

Dirk Brömmel (* 1968 in Bad Godesberg ) is a German visual artist and photographer .

Life

Dirk Brömmel was born in Bad Godesberg in 1968. From 1990 to 1993 he trained as a photographer. He then attended the technical college for design in Bonn until 1994. From 1995 he studied communication design with a focus on photography at the Wiesbaden University of Applied Sciences . In 2000 he graduated as a communications designer. He completed a 6-year study of fine art and artistic photography at the Academy of Fine Arts of the Johannes Gutenberg University with Vladimir Spacek and received the academy letter in 2006. Dirk Brömmel lives in Eltville and works in Wiesbaden .

Dirk Brömmel's oeuvre can be divided into different work cycles:

  • Antennas: TV antennas on house roofs either against a white background or against a cloudy sky. (Place and year of origin: France and Portugal 2001)
  • Villa Tugendhat : This series aims to make history visible. Dirk Brömmel photographed the Mies van der Rohe building Villa Tugendhat in Brno, Czech Republic, using old photos NEW. He then assembled the old and new photos in a "sandwich process". (Place and year of origin: Brno 2002)
  • My places: Photographs of residential building architecture (year of creation: 2002)
  • Upside down: a bird's eye view of ships against a monochrome background. Photographed down from a bridge in up to 60 individual parts, the artist then reassembled the cargo and passenger ships on the computer. upside is Brömmels first cycle of works that dealt with vessels from the air. In the following years, further work cycles with these parameters were created . (Place and year of origin: A bridge over the Rhine 2004/05)
  • La Gondola: Bird's eye view of Venetian gondolas on white or black background. The photographs of the gondolas were taken in the same way as the ships in the "Upside Down" series. (Place and year of origin: Venice 2006)
  • Guard: Uniformed Prague guards in striped sentry boxes in front of a colored, monochrome background. (Place and year of origin: Prague 2007)
  • Gas stations: Detail or long shots of gas stations in Armenia. Rusty gas pumps, logos of large oil companies, abandoned gas stations in a barren landscape or four glasses with a yellowish liquid on the edge of a dusty road. (Place and year of origin: Armenia 2008)
  • MIG: Russian military aircraft photographed from the front or in profile. (Year of creation: 2009)
  • Kaiserkanal: barges on the longest man-made waterway in the world photographed and staged on the computer against a lilac, old pink or light blue background. (Place and year of origin: Imperial Canal between Beijing and Shanghai 2010)
  • Floating Markets: The floating markets of Bangkok from a bird's eye view, in front of a monochrome or colored striped background. (Place and year of origin: Bangkok 2012)
  • Kanzlerbungalow Bonn: Searching for traces and a current perspective on the historical significance of the building.
