Dirk Gratzel

Dirk Christian Gratzel (born February 23, 1968 in Essen ) is a German entrepreneur , lawyer , journalist , author and environmental activist .

As part of his “GREENZERO” project, Gratzel is working with sustainability researchers from the TU Berlin , with biologists, ecologists and forest engineers on methods of how life cycle analyzes can be applied to individuals without great effort and how (negative) life cycle assessments of people can be balanced out in the future.

Life

Dirk Gratzel grew up in a building trade and mining family in the north of Essen and now lives with his wife near Aachen . He has five children.

Career

Gratzel worked as a freelance journalist between 1988 and 2000 for the Second German Television ( ZDF ), the German Press Agency ( dpa ), the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung ( FAZ ), the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung (WAZ) and the Stuttgarter Zeitung .

From 1988 to 1993 Gratzel studied law at the Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen , where he passed his first state examination in 1993. He passed the second state examination in 1996 at the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court . The doctorate in law took place in company and corporate law also at the University of Tübingen. He is the author of various scientific publications in the field of law, personnel and organization.

With his journalistic and legal background, Gratzel joined Daimler AG (at the time: Daimler Benz AG) in the Rastatt plant in 1998 as press spokesman and legal advisor, where he was responsible for legal matters as well as internal and external communication. After further management positions with a focus on human resources and organization, Gratzel and a team of psychologists and business economists founded a consulting company in Aachen in 2007, which focused on applied psychology. The company PRECIRE Technologies emerged from this company in 2013, combining psychology with methods of artificial intelligence.

Dirk Gratzel is a speaker and speaker on the technical future, digitization and digital transformation, on applied psychology and on his plan to have a balanced life cycle assessment.

GREENZERO project

Together with scientists from the Chair of Sustainable Engineering at the TU Berlin, Gratzel meticulously researched and documented every aspect of his consumption and his past and current lifestyle in an elaborate process lasting several months, in order not only to the emission of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ), but also of others To be able to calculate environmentally harmful substances and emissions ( acidification , eutrophication , water footprint ). He pursues an environmentally friendly lifestyle and runs large-scale compensation projects with his own resources, including the purchase and ecological conversion of the former mining areas Polsum I & II in Marl ( Recklinghausen ).

The companies greenzero.me GmbH and greenzero gGmbH, founded with scientists from the TU Berlin, originate from the project. You develop solutions with which - primarily for corporate customers - the life cycle assessments and compensation needs of organizations and people are recorded in order to enable reflection and learning for a sustainable transformation.
