Dirk Von Hayhurst (born March 24, 1981 in Canton , Ohio ) is an American baseball player , who became known through his simultaneous activities as a writer in print media and on the Internet.
Baseball career
Hayhurst played college baseball at Kent State University from 2000-2003 .
2003 Hayhurst was elected in the eighth round of the MLB Draft by the San Diego Padres . He made his MLB debut against the San Francisco Giants on August 23, 2008 with the Padres at the age of 27 . In 2009, Hayhurst pitched 15 games for the Toronto Blue Jays .

In 2007, Hayhurst began writing his Non-Prospect Diaries column for Baseball America magazine, describing life in the professional leagues below the MLB House of Lords . The Non-Prospect Diaries quickly became popular and in 2010 Hayhurst published his first book, The Bullpen Gospels , which describes his 2007 season in the minor league. The book became a New York Times bestseller and received very positive reviews.
