Anastasia Cruz: The Aztlán Caves

“Dirk Reinhardt's debut novel reads fascinatingly. [...] Through the eyes of its protagonist, the past takes shape, even if initially only in narratives. The reader learns a lot of interesting facts about the bloody conquest of Central America by the marauding Conquistadores, but also about life in today's Mexico. [...] All in all, a book for young people that not only entertains its readers in an exciting way, but also provides a lot of interesting information and always keeps an eye on the special problems of young people.

Anastasia Cruz: The Books of Thoth

“The books of Thoth [is] a wonderful book for young people that is able to convey the enthusiasm for historical research without having to strive for a historical setting. With its curious, young main character, it stays as close to the reader as possible, so that both girls and boys can identify with her well. Anastasia Cruz clearly stands out from the crowd of adventure literature with its witty, imaginative presentation. "Litlog - Göttingen eMagazine for literature, culture, science (Rüdiger Brandis)

Edelweiss pirates

“Edelweiss Pirates is an incredibly exciting story about youthful resistance fighters who, based on their urge for freedom and their sense of togetherness, confronted a brutal regime without fear of the cruel consequences. Dirk Reinhardt doesn't want the story of the boys and girls who showed so much courage and showed a lot of backbone to be forgotten. With edelweiss pirates he did his great part. "Young book (Bianka Boyke)

“The narration on two time levels, which Dirk Reinhardt chose for his book, proves to be an adequate means of conveying the story of the edelweiss pirates to the readers up close through the authenticity of a diary and at the same time on the contemporary level through Daniel's conversations with the old man To draw in a level of reflection that offers help for reflection and for mental processing of what has been read. As a result, today's young readers are also familiar with the z. Sometimes brutal and inhuman events are not left alone. "Volkacher Bote - Journal of the German Academy for Children's and Youth Literature (Günter Lange)

“The historically very well researched novel, which, even if the characters are fictional, is based on actual events, is an impressive testimony to civil courage and resistance, but also shows very clearly how difficult it was in the terror system of the Third Reich to fight against the passivity of the crowd. You have to read it! "Youth literature committee of the Bavarian Teachers' Association (Heidrun Scharrer)

Train kids

“Reinhardt, historian and German scholar, knows very well not to tell stories alone in an extremely captivating way; In his novel, which is not only recommended for young people, he comes close to the ideal of the linguistic congruence of form and content. […] All in all, this is an extremely substantial, linguistically exciting and artfully told youth novel about one of the most burning problems of our time, which can only be recommended to everyone without reservation. “1000 and 1 book - The Austrian magazine for children's and youth literature (Franz Derdak)

“Dirk Reinhardt traveled to Mexico to do local research. He processes his observations and experiences in a rousing refugee story about five young people who try to cover more than two and a half thousand kilometers on freight trains in order to look for their parents in the USA. [...] Train Kids is a gripping piece of refugee literature, authentic and moving. Not just for teenagers. ”Amnesty Journal

“In this respect, the author provides drastic, realistic insights into the migration scene on the American continent, conveys an understanding of these non-legal immigration flows and suggests that building increasingly perfect border fences cannot solve this problem, but only an improvement in the social situation in the countries of origin . An insight that also applies to our hiking movements. The reading is therefore equally exciting, globally applicable and instructive. "

"Train Kids combines a current topic with a very exciting story and many authentic descriptions of Mexico. The author cleverly combines the present and the past, action and memories. You can literally hear, see and feel the endless rattle of the trains, the wind and the stars in the night sky. But also the fear, the despair and the never-ending hope of the young people. All of this told grandiose in impressive, sometimes quietly pathetic images. "

“The questionable appeal of dystopias and drastic psychological thrillers has recently shaped the discourse on youth literature. This novel is harder; not because it aims at it, but because it tells of a harsh reality. "Neue Zürcher Zeitung am Sonntag (Hans ten Doornkaat)

“The book was created on the basis of numerous conversations that the author had with real train kids: young people who try to cross Mexico on freight trains. And so this story is as ruthless as it is truthful. [...] Young readers (and not only they) will then have a different view of events that they hear about on the news every day - because this is where sober numbers get a human face. "

“Actually, the 300+ pages are about a train journey from the Guatemalan border river Rio Suchiate to the Rio Bravo, which is called Rio Grande in the USA. But like in an exciting road movie, which is often about dangerous destinations in the distance, reading from the first to the last page is captivating. "Süddeutsche Zeitung (Ralf Husemann)
