The district of San Carlos is located in the province of Bongará in the Amazonas region in northern Peru . The district was established during the early years of the Republic of Peru. It has an area of ​​112 km². The 2017 census counted 509 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 511, in 2007 it was 367. The administrative seat is the 1920  m high town of San Carlos with 369 inhabitants (as of 2017). San Carlos is 4 km southeast of the city of Pedro Ruiz Gallo .

Geographical location

The district of San Carlos is located in the northern Peruvian Andes in the south of the province of Bongará. The district has a maximum longitudinal extension in WNW-OSE direction of 19.5 km and a maximum width of about 10 km. The area is drained to the west towards the Río Utcubamba .

The district of San Carlos borders in the south with the district Valera , in the southwest with the district Churuja , in the west with the districts San Jerónimo ( province Luya ) and Jazán , in the north with the district Cuispes and in the east with the district Jumbilla .

Attractions

In the south of the district there is the Gocta waterfall with a free fall height of 771 m.
