The district of Yambrasbamba is located in the province of Bongará in the Amazonas region in northern Peru . The district was founded on December 26, 1870. It has an area of ​​1679 km². The 2017 census counted 5851 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3521, in 2007 it was 6043. The administrative seat is the 1903  m high village Yambrasbamba with 760 inhabitants (as of 2017). Yambrasbamba is located 22 km north-northwest of the provincial capital Jumbilla . The national road 5N from Bagua to Moyobamba runs through the south of the district. In the north of the district is the Zona Reservada Río Nieva .

Geographical location

The Yambrasbamba district is located in the northern Peruvian Andes and extends over the north of the Bongará province. The district has a maximum longitudinal extent in SSW-NNE direction of almost 87 km and a maximum width of about 33 km. The Río Chiriaco (also Río Imaza) flows through the southwest of the district, the Río Nieva the northeast.

The district of Yambrasbamba borders in the west on the district Cajaruro ( province Utcubamba ), in the northwest on the district Nieva ( province Condorcanqui ), in the east on the districts Barranca ( province Datem del Marañón ), Moyobamba ( province Moyobamba ) and Pardo Miguel ( province Rioja) ) and in the south to the districts of Corosha and Florida .
