The Nieva District is one of the three districts that make up the Condorcanqui Province in the Amazonas region in northern Peru . It was established by law on May 18, 1984 and is mainly inhabited by Aguaruna , Huambisa and Mestizo settlers. The district has an area of 4484.6 km² (according to other sources: 4182 km²). At the 2017 census, 18,626 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 14,953, in 2007 22,192.
Geographical location
The district is located in the jungle and is traversed by the Río Nieva , one of the tributaries of the Río Marañón .
The district and provincial capital is Santa María de Nieva .
