The Rio Santiago District is a Peruvian district in the Condorcanqui Province in the Amazonas region . The district was established on May 18, 1984. It has an area of ​​8035.3 km² (according to other sources: 8068 km²). In the 2017 census, the population was 13,953. In 1993 this was 8,124, in 2007 it was 12,606. The district administration is based in the locality of Puerto Galilea .

Geographical location

The Río Santiago district is traversed by the eponymous river Río Santiago , a left tributary of the Río Marañón , in a southerly direction. The district borders on Ecuador to the north, the Loreto region to the east, the Nieva district to the south and the El Cenepa district to the west .
