The El Cenepa district is one of the three districts of the Condorcanqui Province in the Amazonas region in the far north of Peru . The district is located in the jungle. It has an area of ​​5345.5 km² (according to other sources: 5626 km²). The population was 9891 at the 2017 census. In 1993 it was 7443, in 2007 it was 8513. The district capital is Huampami in the southeast of the district.

In 1995 the Cenepa war between Peru and Ecuador was fought within the area of ​​the district .

Geographical location

The province of El Cenepa extends over the catchment area of the Río Cenepa , left tributary of the Río Marañón . In the northwest the province borders on Ecuador.
