The Condorcanqui Province is one of seven provinces in the Amazon region in northern Peru . It has an area of 17,865.4 km². In the 2017 census, the population was 42,470. In 1993 this was 30,520, in 2007 it was 43,311. The provincial capital is Santa María de Nieva .
The province of Condorcanqui is the largest province in the Amazon region in terms of area. It was named after José Gabriel Condorcanqui (Túpac Amaru II), who led an uprising against Spanish colonial rule. The dispute over the course of the border with Ecuador led to the Cenepa War here in 1995 .
Geographical location
The province of Condorcanqui borders Ecuador in the north, the Loreto region in the east, the Bongará and Utcubamba provinces in the south, and the Bagua province in the west .
Administrative division
The Condorcanqui Province consists of three districts. The district of Nieva is the seat of the provincial administration.

Ethnic groups
Most of the Condorcanqui province consists of jungle and is mainly populated by the Aguaruna and Huambisa .
