The Florida District is located in the Bongará Province in the Amazonas region of northern Peru . The district was founded on November 3, 1933. It has an area of 222 km². The 2017 census counted 6,395 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3635, in 2007 it was 6199. The administrative seat is the 2225 m high town of Pomacochas (also Florida) with 3869 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pomacochas is located 20 km northwest of the provincial capital Jumbilla . The national road 5N ( Moyobamba - Bagua ) crosses the district.
Geographical location
The Florida District is located in the southwest of the Bongará Province. The Río Chiriaco (also Río Imaza ) flows north along the northeastern district boundary . Centrally located in the district is the 4 km² large lake Laguna de Pomacochas .
The Florida district borders in the far west on the Cajaruro district ( Utcubamba province ), in the north on the Yambrasbamba district , in the far east on the Corosha district , in the southeast on the Jumbilla district and in the south on the Cuispes and Shipasbamba districts .
