The district of Jazán is located in the province of Bongará in the Amazonas region in northern Peru . The district was established on February 26, 1980. It has an area of ​​75.7 km². The 2017 census counted 8,059 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 7,160, in 2007 8,332. The administrative center is the small town of Pedro Ruiz Gallo at an altitude of 1313  m with 5693 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pedro Ruiz Gallo is located on the right bank of the Río Utcubamba 20 km west-southwest of the provincial capital Jumbilla . The national road 5N ( Moyobamba - Bagua ) crosses the district. The only larger town besides Pedro Ruiz Gallo is San Miguel de Chosgon with 680 inhabitants.

Geographical location

The Jazán District is located in the southwest of the Bongará Province. The district is mainly located on the left southwest bank of the Río Utcubamba.

The district of Jazán borders on the district of San Jerónimo ( province of Luya ) to the south and west , on the district of Shipasbamba in the north and on the districts of Cuispes and San Carlos in the east .
