The narrow-leaved Klebalant ( Dittrichia graveolens ) is a species of the genus Klebalant ( Dittrichia ) in the sunflower family (Asteraceae). The generic name honors the German botanist Manfred Dittrich (born 1934).

Vegetative characteristics

Dittrichia graveolens is an annual herbaceous plant that reaches stature heights of 20 to 50, rarely up to 100 centimeters. It is strongly knotted and has a pyramidal structure in outline. The linear leaves are 1 to 2 millimeters wide and smell like camphor .

Generative characteristics

The flower heads have a diameter of up to 10 millimeters. The florets are provided with a length of 4 to 7 millimeters, or at most either slightly longer than the husks .

The flowering period extends from July to December.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 16, 18 or 20.

Occurrence

Dittrichia graveolens is originally found in the Mediterranean region , in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, in the Middle East, Pakistan and India. Dittrichia graveolens was brought outside of its natural range. It is a neophyte found in Central Europe, Great Britain, Egypt, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States. It has been proven in Germany since 1950 and is considered a naturalized neophyte .

Dittrichia graveolens grows in dry ruderal areas and in river beds, but especially along the highways and railroad tracks. The locations can be influenced by salt. Dittrichia graveolens grows mainly in plant communities of the Sisymbrion and Salsolion associations.

Taxonomy

The first publication took place in 1755 under the name ( Basionym ) Erigeron graveolens by Carl von Linné . The specific epithet graveolens means strongly fragrant. The new combination to Dittrichia graveolens (L.) Greuter was published in 1973 by Werner Greuter . Further synonyms for Dittrichia graveolens (L.) Greuter are: Inula graveolens (L.) Desf. , Jacobaea graveolens (L.) Merino , Cupularia graveolens (L.) Godr. & Gren. and Inula quadridentata Lag.
