Their martyrdom stands for the myth of the resistance of the Catholic population against the Muslim Ottomans ruling in what is now Bosnia and Herzegovina . Diva is still worshiped today by the predominantly Catholic Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina . On the first Sunday in July each year, on the feast of her martyrdom, Holy Mass is celebrated in Kedžara , in which several thousand believers and pilgrims take part.

Legend

Bosnia and Herzegovina had been under the rule of the Ottoman Empire for almost 200 years in the 17th century . Diva is said to have lived in the community of Prozor-Rama (Herzegovina). The rich Ottoman beg from the neighboring region of Kupres Tahir Kopčić is said to have fallen in love with the 20-year-old diva. He is said to have persistently wooed the woman who, for reasons of faith, refused to consent to the marriage. For her protection, Diva was sent to a relative in the mountains by her father. The Beg had her located and murdered her. Diva's Muslim friend Arslan avenged her and killed the beggar. Diva's grave is said to be in the village of Kedžara. The tomb is placed in the village of Šćit near Rama.

At the place where her blood was shed, a stone is said to have stood from which a small spring has flowed and a flower has been growing since her death. The alleged stone can be viewed today.

The legend can be found in many Croatian stories and folk songs .
