Dmitri Wiktorowitsch Charin ( Russian Дми́трий Ви́кторович Ха́рин ; born August 16, 1968 in Moscow , RSFSR , USSR ) is a former Soviet and Russian football goalkeeper and current football coach.
Charin played from 1982 for the first youth team of Torpedo Moscow , in November 1984 he was used for the first time in a game of the first team of Torpedo in the Wysschaja league . In 1988 he moved to Dynamo Moscow and then played for CSKA Moscow from 1991 , with CSKA he won the Soviet championship in 1991 and was in the final of the soccer cup in May 1992, which was won by Spartak Moscow .
In the summer of 1992 Charin moved to England for Chelsea , in 1994 he was with Chelsea in the FA Cup final against Manchester United , but the game was clearly lost 4-0. From 1996 Charin was rarely used due to injuries. After 146 games for Chelsea, he moved to Celtic Glasgow in 1999 , where he was only used 11 times in three seasons due to injury problems. Charin ended his active career between 2002 and 2004 with Hornchurch FC in the Isthmian League .
Charin won the U-16 European Football Championship in Hungary in 1985 with the Soviet junior team . In 1988 he won the gold medal with the Soviet Olympic team at the soccer tournament of the Olympics in Seoul and was also in the Soviet goal in the final against Brazil. In November 1988 he made his debut for the Soviet national team, after a total of 6 international matches for the Sbornaja , Charin was the goalkeeper of the CIS team at the 1992 European Football Championship and was in goal in all three games. He then played 23 games for the Russian national soccer team between 1992 and 1998 and took part in the 1994 World Cup and the 1996 European Championship .
Charin was the goalkeeping coach of the English club Luton Town from 2004 to 2013 .
