Dmytro Polyakov was able to win a total of nine tournaments on the ATP Challenger Tour in his career , four of them in singles and five more in doubles. On the ATP Tour in 1991 in Kitzbühel he was in the finals of the doubles competition together with the Peruvian Pablo Arraya , but they lost against Tomás Carbonell and Francisco Roig in three sets. In the same year Polyakov won his only single title. In Umag , Croatia , he defeated the Spaniard Javier Sánchez 6: 4, 6: 4. His highest place in the world rankings was 93rd place in singles on June 10, 1991 and 119th place in doubles on July 13, 1993. Polyakov took part in all Grand Slams , but never came through the second round in singles or the first round in Double addition.
Between 1990 and 1998 Polyakow played in the Davis Cup . First he joined the Soviet team in 1990 and 1991 , before playing for Ukraine from 1993 . With a total of 18 participations, he won eleven of thirteen individual games. In doubles his statistics are also positive with 9: 7 wins. Polyakow and Andrij Medwedjew are the most successful doubles pair in the Ukrainian Davis Cup history with seven joint double victories.
Polyakov became world tennis champion in the over 50s division in 2018. He works as a trainer at SV Henstedt-Ulzburg .
