Life

Between 1870 and 1877 he studied with Domenico Costantino and 1874-1875 with Benedetto De Lisi . After a stay in Naples , where he studied the sculptures of antiquity in the National Archaeological Museum , he went to Florence in 1878.

In 1880 he returned to Palermo for the last time to model the figurines on the triumphal arch for King Umberto I's visit to the city.

With the fee for this he went to Paris in the same year . There he exhibited his sculptures in the salon from 1881, 1884, 1885 and 1887. In Paris he made friends with the sculptor Antonio Giovanni Lanzirotti , who introduced him to the work of Auguste Rodin . In 1891 he went to London , in 1894 he was shown at the great art exhibition in Vienna for his sculptures "Pia dei Tolomei" and "Ophelia" honored with a gold medal. From 1895 he was based in Florence. In the same year he was represented at the first Biennale di Venezia , where he received the grand prize of the Biennale with the girl act “Derelitta”.

Around 1913 he was appointed to the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence , where he became director shortly afterwards. In 1932 he was nominated for the Accademico d'Italia.

His figures and busts, inspired by the Renaissance sculpture of Tuscany , did not tend towards a realism influenced by Impressionism until after 1900 , such as the bronze figure of Cain, which shows a relationship to Rodin. A memorial plaque for Trentacoste can be found in Via Bicasoli in Florence. Some of his students were Marino Marini , Guido Calori, Mirko Basaldella, Paolo S. Abbata and Marc Andries Smit.
