Don Blackman

Donald "Don" Blackman (born September 1, 1953 in Queens , New York City , † April 11, 2013 ) was an American funk and jazz pianist.

Life

Blackman appeared in Charles McPherson's band with Sam Jones and Louis Hayes as early as 1968 . In the early 1970s he toured as a keyboardist with the group Parliament / Funkadelic and later became a member of Lenny White's funk band Twennynine . He also worked on Weldon Irvine's album Sindbad . In 1982 he released his first solo album.

He later worked with Kurtis Blow and Bernard Wright . As a studio musician he took a. a. with Nagee , David Sanborn , Wayman Tisdale , Patrice Rushen , Roy Ayers , Sting (Brand New Day) , the World Saxophone Quartet (Takin 'It 2 the Next Level) , Janet Jackson (That's the Way Love Goes) and Wayman Tisdale. His compositions were by artists such as Tupac Shakur , Memphis Bleek and Master P. gecovert. Blackman composed jingles for radio and television programs, numerous commercials (including for Coca-Cola, Burger King, Martini and Bulldog Dozer), and music for children (including for the daily show Gullah Gullah Island ). His title Haboglabotribine (composed for B. Wright) was sampled by Snoop Doggy Dogg .

Blackman died on April 11, 2013 after developing severe cancer.
