Donald P. Brautigam (born September 12, 1946 in Paterson , New Jersey , † January 27, 2008 ) was an American painter , draftsman and illustrator . He became known for the book and record covers he had drawn .

Live and act

The bride and groom began drawing cars and motorcycles around the age of four. In 1971 he graduated from the School of Visual Arts . His preferred techniques were acrylic painting and airbrushing , which he combined. One of his best-known works is the book cover for the first American edition of Stephen King's novel The Last Battle , for which he received Cover of the Year in 1980 . He has also been drawing record covers since the 1970s. He received his first award in 1974 for the cover of Herbie Mann's album Reggae . He continued to draw covers for magazines and designed advertising graphics and logos for companies like BASF , Pepsi and Dell, as well as for music groups like ZZ Top , AC / DC and The Rolling Stones . Later, oil paintings added, mostly portraits . The original album cover for Metallica's Master of Puppets fetched $ 35,000 at auction in November 2008.

He was married with two sons and was friends with the writer Dean Koontz .
