Donkey Kong Land III or alternatively Donkey Kong Land 3 is the latter part of the Donkey Kong Land series. It is based on Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! . The protagonists of the game are Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong . DKL3's music is based on the soundtrack of Donkey Kong Country 3 . Donkey Kong Land III was originally supposed to have the additional title The Race Against Time , but this idea was discarded before it was released.

It is the sequel to Donkey Kong Land 2 .

Backstory

Donkey Kong Country Island has been visited by numerous explorers since the legendary Lost World was discovered. Donkey and Diddy Kong are among the first to visit the Lost World. Meanwhile, Dixie Kong takes care of little Kiddy Kong. Since Dixie is overcome by a thirst for adventure, she leaves with Kiddy to take on a new challenge and discover the lost world.

Gameplay

Dixie and Kiddy Kong have to be controlled through various levels. As in the predecessor, it is of central importance to find the bonus and DK coins. The DK coins are mostly guarded by the Kremling Koin . Other items such as bananas, balloons and the letters KONG can also be collected, for which the player receives extra lives. Bear coins also play an important role; these are required as a means of payment at the Bear Bear in the “Sheepy Shop”. There the player can solve a memory game , provided he can find a certain number of bonus coins. For solving this memory game, depending on your success, you will receive different prizes, such as bananas or a DK coin and a stopwatch once in each world. The stopwatches are required so that time games can be played after the game, which must be completed in order to achieve a maximum score of 103%. For a fee, Bear also gives tips or teleports the Kongs to game worlds that have already been entered. The game is saved as in the SNES model in the storage cave of Wrinkly Kong . A total of 78 bonus coins, 42 DK coins and 12 stopwatches can be found.

Game worlds

DKL3 consists of six game worlds with a total of 36 levels and five different bosses.

  • Cape Codswallop (6 levels + Barbos boss ): A village-like area that is located on a lake or river. The final boss is the giant clam Barbos.
  • Primate Plains (6 levels + final boss Bleak ): Wooded area that is crossed by a river and has a small snow mountain on which the snowman Bleak lives.
  • Blackforest Plateau (6 levels + final boss Arich ): This game world is also crossed by a river, in addition there is a small waterfall and two mountains of snow.
  • Great Ape Lakes (6 levels + final boss KAOS ): In this area there are two small houses and a large lake with a waterfall. The final boss is the robot KAOS.
  • Tin Can Valley (6 levels + final boss K. Rool ): This game world is similar to the other game worlds. She also has a lake with a waterfall. As the final boss, K. Rool has to be defeated for the first time.
  • Lost World (6 levels + final boss K. Rool ): Last world of Donkey Kong Land III, which, unlike in Donkey Kong Country 3, does not have to be found first, but can be entered directly after completing the previous worlds. Here K. Rool has to be beaten for the second time. After that, the player is given the opportunity to play time games, provided that he has collected the necessary stopwatches.

Units sold

With an estimated 1.03 million units sold, Donkey Kong Land III is the lowest-selling part of the Donkey Kong Land range. It ranks 30th on the list of the most successful Game Boy games.
