Donn Trenner

Donald "Donn" Trenner (born March 10, 1927 in New Haven , Connecticut ; † May 16, 2020 ) was an American arranger and pianist of the swing era and modern jazz . He worked for Charlie Barnet as well as with Charlie Parker and Stan Getz .

Live and act

At the beginning of his career, Trenner played with Ted Fio Rito from 1943 to 1945 . Together with his wife, the singer Helen Carr , he was a member of Buddy Morrow's orchestra in 1947 . In 1948 he led a trio with her in San Francisco . From 1950–51, Trenner worked for Charlie Barnet , and from 1953 he also played and arranged for Jerry Gray , Charlie Parker , Stan Getz , Georgie Auld , Jerry Fielding , Skinnay Ennis , Les Brown , Lena Horne and Nancy Wilson . In 1957 he worked with Oscar Pettiford and Anita O'Day and in 1958 in Europe. He also recorded records with Tommy Dorsey , Howard McGhee , Francis Faye , Betty Roche , Nelson Riddle and Paul Broadnax . In the 1960s he worked primarily as a studio musician, arranger and musical director for TV productions (such as for Shirley MacLaine , the Steve Allen Show and Nightlife Show ).
