Paul Broadnax
Paul Leo Broadnax Jr. (born January 27, 1926 in Cambridge (Massachusetts) , † August 1, 2018 in Lasell Village , Auburndale ) was an American jazz musician ( vocals , piano , also saxophone ).

Broadnax came from a musical family; his uncle Joe Lee was a stride pianist and his parents were trained classical singers. He studied engineering at Wentworth and Northeastern University ; in World War II he served in the Air Corps of the US Air Force; During this time he played with the pianist Donn Trenner . After the war he worked as an engineer at Raytheon until his retirement in 1970. He also performed as a musician at an early age; In 1946 he played with the baritone saxophonist Joe Perry, brother of the jazz violinist Ray Perry . In the late 1940s, Broadnax had his own trio, with whom he also appeared in the USO troop entertainment in Roxbury, Massachusetts.
He arranged for Sabby Lewis' band ; He worked freelance in the 1950s with the bands of Tom Kennedy and Buster Daniels. In the mid-1960s he recorded his debut album Introducing Paul Broadnax in a trio line-up (with Champ Jones, bass and Tony Sarni, drums) , which was released on the local label Fleetwood . In the 1980s he led a trio with Dave Trefethen and Les Harris, Jr. From the 1990s he also worked with Jeanne Lee , heard on her album Natural Affinities , on which the two interpreted the standard " I Thought About You " . In the following years he also played with vocalist Monica Hatch, Greg Abate ( It's Christmas Time , 1994 with Herb Pomeroy , among others ), Wendee Glick ( Baby, I'm Fine , 2002, with Ken Peplowski among others ) and with Ken Hadley Big Tape. In 1995 Broadnax's album Here's to Joe: Tribute to Joe Williams was created . In the field of jazz he was involved in eleven recording sessions between 1966 and 2005.
His musical role models were Nat King Cole and Lester Young ; stylistically, his singing was based on Joe Williams, Johnny Hartman and Earl Coleman .
