Donna Christian-Christensen (born September 19, 1945 in Teaneck , New Jersey ) is an American politician ( Democratic Party ). She was a member of the US House of Representatives for the US Virgin Islands from January 3, 1997 to January 3, 2015 .

Donna Christian acquired 1966 its Bachelor of Science at Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame ( Indiana ). She then attended the School of Medicine at George Washington University in Washington, DC , where she graduated in 1970 as an MD (Doctor of Medicine), whereupon she embarked on a professional career as a doctor. In 1987 this took her to Saint Croix , the largest of the American Virgin Islands. There she worked for a year as medical director at St. Croix Hospital. She also worked temporarily as a television journalist.

In her new home, Donna Christian began a political career. From 1988 to 1994 she was assistant to the Minister of Health ( Commissioner of Health ) of the Virgin Islands, before she held this office on a temporary basis until 1995. In 1984, 1988 and 1992 she took part as a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions . After losing to Victor O. Frazer of the conservative Independent Citizens Movement in the 1994 congressional elections , she prevailed two years later and was then able to move into Congress in Washington in January 1997 . As a delegate there, she had no voting rights in the House of Representatives, but only in the committees to which she belonged. Most recently she was a member of the Energy and Trade Committee . She also sat in the non-partisan International Conservation Caucus , which deals with issues of environmental protection.

In 2014, Donna Christian-Christensen decided not to run again. Instead, she ran for the office of governor of the Virgin Islands, but was defeated by the independent candidate Kenneth Mapp in the runoff election. Her congress seat fell to the Democrat Stacey Plaskett .
