Donnerhall (born May 31, 1981 , † January 14, 2002 ) was a German dressage horse . Donnerhall was not only extremely successful as a sport horse , but also as a breeding stallion .
Life and Achievements
Donnerhall was bred by Otto Gärtner and was sold as a foal to Otto Schulte-Frohlinde. He successfully took part in numerous international dressage competitions at Grand Prix level. Donnerhall was a son of Donnerwetter out of the mare Ninette by Markus-Carnot.
His dressage career began in 1984 when he finished the stallion performance test in Adelheidsdorf as reserve champion with 131.92 points. Donnerhall, trained by Herbert and Karin Rehbein , was very easy to train and reached Grand Prix level within just two years. He was especially known for his expressive passage , piaffe, and strong trot .
Donnerhall and his rider Karin Rehbein won over 65 Grand Prix competitions; In 1986 he was German DLG Champion in Hanover, winner of the team gold and individual bronze medal at the 1994 World Equestrian Games in The Hague, the Netherlands, and at the 1997 European Championships in Verden. At the 1998 World Equestrian Games in Rome, his last tournament, he won team gold and came in fourth in the individual evaluation. He was also voted Oldenburg Stallion of the Year 1998.
At the age of 17, Donnerhall was officially retired from sport in 1998 on the occasion of the Oldenburg main licensing.
He died in 2002 of acute intestinal poisoning.
In June 2007 a bronze statue of the stallion was erected in the Oldenburg pedestrian zone near the Lappan . It was designed by Walter Hilpert from Dresden, weighs around 700 kilograms and was cast in individual parts, welded together, soldered and processed with a patina by the Harms metal foundry in Emsstrasse between May and June 2007.
progeny
Donnerhall sired 77 licensed sons and 450 mares. His offspring achieved top prices at numerous auctions. His most successful offspring include Olympic and world championship participants, champion stallions and premium mares. Some of his best-known descendants are the mares Primavera, Donnermärchen, the state premium mare Primamärchen (granddaughter) and the stallions Don Schufro , Davignon I , Don Primero , De Niro , Donner Bube , Don Gregory , Donnerschwee , Don Frederico and Donnerball . All of the horses in the German dressage team at the 2012 Olympic Summer Games are due to Donnerhall: Damon Hill (Donnerhall son), Desperados (grandson) and Diva Royal (granddaughter).
