The Donnerstein is a 2725 m above sea level. A. high mountain in the Lasörling group in East Tyrol .
Neighboring mountains are the Speikboden ( 2653 m ) in the west and the Zupalkogel (also Griften , 2720 m ) in the east.
The Donnerstein is only half an hour's walk east of Speikboden, the local mountain of St. Veit in Defereggen . The Speikboden and Donnerstein are connected by a path, most of which is laid out on the steep grass slope facing south, just below the ridge. This transition is only recommended for sure-footed mountain hikers. Further climbs lead from the north and northeast from the Zupalseehütte in Virgental to the summit. From the southeast it can be reached from the hamlet of Melitz via the Melitzalm ( 1965 m ). All of these climbs are marked hiking trails.
The Donnerstein offers a good view of the Glockner Group , Venediger Group , Panargenkamm and Rieserferner Group . The ascent from the Speikbodenhütte above St. Veit takes about 2.5 hours, the one from the Zupalseehütte takes about 1 hour to walk.
