Donny Toia (real name Donald Austin Toia ; born May 28, 1992 in Tucson , USA ) is an American football player who is currently under contract with Montreal Impact . He is mostly used as a defender .

Career

Club career

After completing his football training at the Tucson Soccer Academy , Toia first played in the youth academy of the MLS franchise Real Salt Lake . Toia was able to develop well there and recommend him for a commitment, which is why he was signed by Real Salt Lake in 2011 as the first homegrown player in the history of the franchise. In the 2011 season he was not used for Real Salt Lake.

Due to a lack of employment prospects at Real Salt Lake, the franchise terminated the contract with Toia without a single assignment in early 2012. Toia then moved to the USL Premier Development League for FC Tuscon . At FC Tuscon he was able to attract attention again, was used 15 times in the 2012 season and scored five league goals, which means a very good goal rate for a defender.

In 2013 Toia moved to the United Soccer League , the third highest division in the North American soccer league system, to Phoenix FC . He was regularly used as a regular player and played 24 times for Phoenix in the 2013 season; he achieved six goals. It was through his achievements that the MLS franchises became aware of Toia.

The Chivas USA signed Toia for the 2014 season . Here, too, he asserted himself as a regular player and came to 27 appearances in the league by the end of the season. The franchise was dissolved after the 2014 season, so Toia had to change his club again.

Because of this, he plays for Montreal Impact in the 2015 season . In the first league game for the Canadians, on April 4 against Houston Dynamo , Toia was used from the start. He also played all Impact games in the knockout round of the 2014/15 CONCACAF Champions League , in which Montreal reached the final.

After the 2016 season , Toia's contract was not renewed, ending his time at Montreal Impact after 48 league games (one goal). He was selected by Atlanta United as part of the Expansion Draft and immediately transferred to Orlando City . Toia played his first game on March 5, 2017 against New York City FC .

National team

Toia completed three games for the U-18 and 2011 one game for the US U-20 national team. After that, he has not yet been considered for any further missions by a national team.
