Dontay Latrai Caruthers (born June 23, 1995 in Rochester , New York ) is an American basketball player .

Career

Caruthers played basketball at his high school in Rochester . He was named Greater Rochester Player of the Year and the Class A first-team All-State . After a year at Midland Community College in Texas , he moved to Indian Hills Community College for his sophomore year , where he stayed injured for the entire year. He then moved to the University at Buffalo . There he was named Defensive Player of the Year at the Mid-American Conference (MAC) in 2017 and 2019 and joined the All-MAC Defensive Team in 2017 called.

After not being selected in the 2019 NBA draft , he signed a contract with Grand Rapids Drive , the Detroit Pistons development team in the G-League . The contract was terminated before the start of the season. He then played two games for the Agua Caliente Clippers before the German club Science City Jena brought him into the second-highest division ProA . He initially received a trial contract from the people of Saale until January 31, 2020, but this was not extended.

Private

Caruther's cousin is basketball player Javon McCrea , who has played for Medi Bayreuth and the Tigers Tübingen in Germany .
