Dora Heldt (born November 10, 1961 as Bärbel Schmidt in List on Sylt ) is a German writer .

Life

She was born in 1961 as the daughter of a Bundeswehr soldier on Sylt and grew up in different locations. After training as a bookseller in Bad Godesberg and years of work as a representative for the German paperback publishing house , which she also did for several years after her breakthrough as a bestselling author, she drew attention to herself as Dora Heldt with her novels about Christine and her idiosyncratic father Heinz. She lives with her family in Hamburg .

Bärbel Schmidt has been publishing under the pseudonym Dora Heldt, the name of her grandmother, since her first novel Ausgeliziert (2006) . Her debut novel was already on the bestseller list (35th place in January 2006), but it wasn't until her third book, Urlaub mit Papa , that she achieved her breakthrough as a bestselling author in 2008. The title made it to number 5 on the Spiegel bestseller list. A film adaptation of the book made for ZDF in the summer of 2009 with Julia Stinshoff (Christine), Lambert Hamel (Heinz) and Steffen Groth (Johann) in the leading roles was shown on 15. Broadcasted November 2009 as a Sunday film. It was the first film adaptation of one of her books, and more followed. The book has also been translated.

With her novel Kein Wort zu Papa , she made it to number 1 on the bestseller list for the first time in 2010. Further No. 1 placings followed: In the heat, it is at least not cold (2011), wind from the west with strong gusts (2014), We Are the Good (2017), Three Women at the Lake (2018). The novels Tante Inge abuts (2009), Congratulations, you have won! (2013) and her first crime novel Böse People (2016) moved up to number 2 on the bestseller list.

In addition to novels for adults, she has also published Siebenmeter für die Liebe , a book for young people about first love and handball . She was an active handball player herself for many years.
