action
Sara moves to the former mining community of Bridgend , Wales with her father Dave . There is a mysterious wave of suicides, which are mainly committed by young people without leaving a suicide note. Sara's father is the new chief of police and investigates what has happened while Sara befriends a group of her own age. The young people had some friends among the dead and hold obscure remembrance rituals in the forest and online. Although Sara is alienated from the morbid cult, she falls in love with the shy, sullen Jamie. While her father pokes in the fog during his investigation, the psyche of his daughter gets dangerous cracks.
background
The film is inspired by real events: Between 2007 and 2012, there were a number of unsolved youth suicide cases in the Bridgend area, with 79 people officially hanging, usually hanging, to death. Director Rønde followed the events over a period of six years and wrote the script based on the stories of the teenagers and families involved.
criticism
The film service believes the film is a "captivating mystery thriller based on true events that sums up the group dynamics in suggestive images and sounds". In doing so, "a lot remains open, but with which the film may come closest to the truth".
