The Protestant village church Gräfendorf is a listed church building in the Gräfendorf district in the district town of Herzberg (Elster) in the Elbe-Elster district in southern Brandenburg . It is listed as a local monument in the local monument register under registration number 09135155.

Building description and history

The Gräfendorfer village church is a hall building made of lawn iron stone and brick tiles with a gable roof . The origin is dated to the 13th century . To the west of the nave there has been a recessed bell tower with a square floor plan since 1847. This was built that year as part of a restoration and has an octagonal tower top and a slate-covered tail hood .

The interior of the church is characterized by a flat plastered ceiling, a triumphal arch and a horseshoe gallery. The furnishings of the church include a double-chalice-shaped baptismal font from the 17th or 18th century and a pulpit altar from the mid-19th century.

In the church there is also an organ created in 1803 by Torgau organ builder Johann Christian Friedrich Flemming (1745-1811). This organ has a mechanical drawer , a manual and 10 stops .

The building also has two bells, the first of which was made in bronze in 1800 by Johann Joseph Kittel from the Bohemian Nixdorf in Bohemia . The other bell is a bell created in 1922 in the bell foundry of Ulrich & Weule , which was based in Apolda and Bockenem .

The Gräfendorfer village church is located in the parish of Bad Liebenwerda and belongs to the parish of Uebigau , which in addition to Gräfendorf includes the churches in Langennaundorf , Wiederau and Drasdo .
