Grammentin village church
The village church in Grammentin in the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is a historic church building from the 15th century.
The church is a rectangular brick building with a polygonal east end and later a tower with a wooden upper floor attached to the west. The foundation walls of the nave date from the 15th century, but the initially towerless church was probably damaged in the Thirty Years' War and later rebuilt, with the windows on the south side being changed. Wall paintings and the altarpiece date from the 17th century. The altar shows relief-like scenes from the Last Supper, the crucifixion and ascension of Jesus as well as figures of saints to the side. The wall paintings are only fragmentary and show a crucifixion scene and St. George fighting the dragon.
The church received its present form mainly during the Baroque period in the 18th century. The pulpit , the surrounding eaves and the tower with its half-timbered substructure, boarded upper part and pointed pyramid helmet date from that time. The church was renovated in the 19th century. The windows were changed in neo-Gothic shapes, the wall paintings were whitewashed, a flat wooden ceiling and a gallery were drawn in and the seating was replaced. In 1867 the organ was bought from a now unknown organ builder. The walls and furnishings were painted over several times in the 20th century. The last major renovation of the church took place in 1997.
The church has two bells in the tower. The bronze bell from 1848 was cast at Schünemann in Demmin, the iron bell from 1969 probably in the Apolda bell foundry .
Grammentin, a branch church of the Kummerow village church , is now part of the Verchen parish , Demmin provost in the Pomeranian Evangelical Church District of the Northern Church .
