History and shape

Thanks to its neo-Romanesque tower, the church is again the dominant building in the village today - after the Solvay works were demolished. The nave is a baroque hall from the years 1718 and 1719, but its window openings are largely shaped by the renovation work carried out between 1876 and 1879, when the new church tower was built. This has a high pointed helmet topped with a cross. The tower was built relatively deep into the ship. The nave was built from quarry stone, while the tower with the west gable and the southern extension for the entrance to the ship were made of brick.

The baroque building had to be repaired several times. In 1777 the wooden beams were rotten and in 1820 the roof was covered. In the years 1831 to 1847 various renovation measures took place. So the roof and the windows were repaired and the inside whitewashed. In 1933 the church of Degenkolbe (Halle) was painted. Another repair took place in 1968. Two windows were restored in 2018 after several years of fundraising.

predecessor

If the dating of the oldest bell is correct, then the first place of worship could be assumed to be in the 12th century. Like St. Germanus (Weißandt-Gölzau) , it would be one of the older churches that were founded in Anhalt-Köthen . The baroque building received a church tower with a half-timbered upper storey in 1786, so that the church was probably without a tower until then. This tower was financed with a donation from the future Prince August Christian von Anhalt-Köthen . In addition, by rescript of November 15, 1786, he allowed the rector from Köthen to hold the Lutheran Lord's Supper in the Reformed Church every quarter for the surrounding towns. He and his wife attended the first in person, which was praised as a fine example of a tolerant attitude .

Interior and outfit

The oldest preserved elements of the church are the bronze bells. The older one is said to date from the 12th century, the younger was created by Clawes Backmester (Magdeburg) in 1504. Haetge and Harksen, who mention a third bell (from the 16th century), however, date it more to around 1300. They place the baptismal font in the 14th century. A number of the Lord's Supper implements (jugs, baptismal bowl, wafer bowl, chalice) date from the 17th and 18th centuries. Otherwise, the furnishings (altar, pulpit) can be assigned to the time of the renovation in the 19th century. The baroque roof structure was reinforced with four hanging columns during the renovation in the 1870s. The church interior has a flat roof and a gallery running around three sides.

The organ is on the west gallery and was created in 1880 by A. Nickol (Dessau). Its predecessor was last repaired in 1851 by A. Hoff (Dessau).

An oak panel commemorates those who died in the First World War . In 2017, the Köthen painters Steffen and Nadine Rogge presented the church with the picture cycle Miracles of Creation .
