Building description and history

The church tower built in 1907

The core of the church in Rückersdorf, first mentioned in 1234 and which was one of the first possessions of the Dobrilugk Monastery , dates back to the 14th century.

The building is a rectangular hall made of field stone, with a semicircular apse connected to the nave in the east . In the west of the ship there is a neo-baroque church tower built in 1907 in the form of a square ridge turret with an octagonal bell storey and a tail hood . There is a modern vestibule on the south side. This vestibule, which was renovated in 1988, conceals a round arched step portal with an iron-studded door leaf.

The building underwent extensive renovation and renovation work in 1907 and 1908. The architect Karl Weber (1870–1915), who was also involved in the renovation work on the Doberlug monastery church , was probably responsible for the plans . This restoration work largely determines the appearance of the Rückersdorfer church inside and outside. In addition to the renewal of the tower, the windows of the building were also enlarged in an arched manner.

Equipment (selection)

The ceiling inside is hollow barrel-shaped and provided with paintings depicting a cloudy sky. The connection from the nave to the apse, in which there are also paintings, is created by a triumphal arch. In the north and west there are galleries , which are decorated with tendril paintings.

The Rückersdorfer church has a simple altarpiece from the second half of the 17th century . In its main field there is a painting depicting the Lamentation of Christ . This is a copy of an Italian painting in the Dresden Gemäldegalerie. There are oil prints in the predella and in the extract.

The organ that can be seen in the church today is an instrument that was created by the Wittstock organ builder Friedrich Hermann Lütkemüller (1815–1897) in 1897 and is now a listed building. The organ was restored in 2000 by the Bad Liebenwerda organ building company Voigt . The organ has a mechanical drawer and seven stops on two manuals .
