The Protestant village church Ribbeck is a Gothic, Baroque converted hall church in the district of Ribbeck von Nauen in the Havelland district in Brandenburg . It belongs to the parish Ribbeck in the Evangelical Church District Nauen-Rathenow of the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia .

History and architecture

The church is an originally Gothic brick hall building with a square west tower as wide as the nave. In 1722 the windows were enlarged and framed with basket arches, the west tower changed and closed with a baroque tail hood and lantern . In 1887 the nave was extended considerably to the east and a retracted apse was added. Both sides of the nave have two-story short extensions to the west. The keystones of the window and portal windows are decorated with palm fronds and Christ heads from the 19th century.

A comprehensive renovation was carried out between 1991 and 1996, with the western church area being separated at room height with a semicircular glass wall and expanded to two storeys; the spire was restored with the support of the German Foundation for Monument Protection . The interior has a flat roof, the painting dates from 1887 in the style of the Schinkel School and was renewed in 1995 according to findings. The semicircular window in the apse with colored glazing with a stylized crown of thorns with flowers is a donation by Pastor Boelcke from the beginning of the 20th century.

Furnishing

The pulpit and the font are from the 19th century. A fragmentary baptismal angel made of oak belongs to the first half of the 18th century and was restored in 1997. A carved epitaph is painted with warlike emblems and reminds of Georg Werner von Bardeleben († 1708). A plaque commemorates Hans Georg Carl Friedrich Ernst von Ribbeck (* April 22, 1799, † December 31, 1882). The church organ is an electronic instrument.

In the church there is also the stump of the pear tree, which was made famous by Theodor Fontane's poem Herr von Ribbeck auf Ribbeck im Havelland and which fell in a storm in 1911. A new pear tree was planted south of the church in 2000. Hans Georg von Ribbeck (1689–1759) , who is considered to be the real model of the aforementioned Mr. von Ribbeck, is also buried in the von Ribbeck crypt under the southern extension of the church .
