The 72nd edition of the Festival della Canzone Italiana di Sanremo took place in 2022 from February 1st to 5th at the Teatro Ariston in Sanremo and was moderated by Amadeus .

Mahmood and Blanco won the competition with the song Brividi .

organization

General

The festival was organized by the Italian public broadcaster Rai . Amadeus moderated the festival for the third time in a row and was also artistic director ( direttore artistico ) of the event. In addition, changing co-moderators appeared: Ornella Muti , Lorena Cesarini , Drusilla Foer , Maria Chiara Giannetta and Sabrina Ferilli . Leonardo De Amicis was responsible for the musical direction ( direzione musicale ) , the sets were by Gaetano and Maria Chiara Castelli and directed by Stefano Vicario .

Off Sanremo, musical guests performed on a Costa cruise ship during the festival, presented by Orietta Berti and Fabio Rovazzi . The performances are shown during the festival evenings. The guests were: Colapesce & Dimartino , Ermal Meta , Gaia and Pinguini Tattici Nucleari .

press jury

The press jury ( Giuria della Sala Stampa, Tv, Radio e Web ) consisted of the journalists accredited for the festival. This year, it was divided into three "partial juries", namely the print and television jury, the radio jury and the online jury. These three voted separately for the first two evenings, each accounting for a third of the vote. On the fourth and fifth evening (in the final round), the three sub-juries acted again as a joint press jury with a unified vote, each determining 33% of the result.

demoscopic jury

The demoscopic jury ( Giuria Demoscopica 1000 ) presented a sample of 1000 representatively selected music consumers who voted from home using an electronic system. She voted on the third (50%), fourth (33%) and fifth night (33% in the final round).

Preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest

As usual, the winner of the Sanremo Festival was given the opportunity to represent Italy in the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest . All participants had to indicate in advance whether they wanted to take advantage of this opportunity. Had the winners declined to participate, the Rai would have made an internal selection.

25 entries in a single category took part in the competition. The announcement of the participants was made on December 4, 2021, with the three winners of Sanremo Giovani 2021 (finals on December 15, 2021) becoming part of the 25 participants.

In the finale on the fifth evening, all participants performed their festival contribution again, only the audience voted via televoting. The three best-placed contributions (on average from all four votes) made it to the final round, in which televoting, the press jury and the demoscopic jury determined the winner. The evening's co-host was Sabrina Ferilli .
