Sanremo Young was an Italian talent show for teenagers that took place at the Ariston Theater in Sanremo in 2018 and 2019 and was hosted by Antonella Clerici . It was hosted by the public broadcaster Rai and broadcast on Rai 1 .

history

The idea of Sanremo Young was to have a group of young candidates between the ages of 14 and 17 interpret songs from the long history of the festival (both competition entries and contributions from guests) following the annual Sanremo Festival . Moderator Antonella Clerici had previously moderated formats similar to Ti lascio una canzone . The performances of the candidates were accompanied by the Sanremo Young Orchestra , made up of young musicians between 18 and 25 years of age, under the direction of Diego Basso .

The winner of the first edition was Elena Manuele with a voting result of 60.95%, the second edition was won by Tecla Insolia with 50.09%.

format

The show extended over five programs on a weekly basis. The appearances of the candidates were evaluated by the ten-member jury named by the Academy . The jury's assessment was added together with the results of the televoting . In addition, a non-voting guest juror appeared in each broadcast. At the end of the first three programs, the four (at risk of elimination) wobbly candidates were marked; in the fourth broadcast, only the last three were at risk. With the voice of the orchestra, a candidate was able to move up a place in the preliminary ranking list, as well as through an internal vote by the candidates themselves. In the final, called showdown , the guest judge was able to save two endangered candidates from the first three programs and one from the fourth ", Whereby the seven remaining wobbly candidates were eliminated.

In the second edition, the number of candidates rose from twelve to 20. In addition, the winner was given the opportunity to participate in the newcomer category of the Sanremo Festival of the following year.
