Strasen village church

The Protestant village church Strasen is located in Strasen , a district of the rural town of Wesenberg in the Mecklenburg district of Mecklenburg Lake District .

Building history

After the previous church burned down completely in a village fire in 1764, construction of a new church began in 1782 under the direction of the forest engineer Draeseke. It was consecrated in 1784 after two years of construction. The half-timbered building has an area of ​​230 m² and is 5.60 m high. The half-timbered building is supported on the sides by a foundation made of bricks . The church has two pairs of windows on each side. On the entrance side there is a cross on the gable. The ceiling is a plastered beam ceiling with a cove underneath. The church tower was demolished in 1969 because it was in disrepair.

Furnishing

Pulpit altar

The wooden, palatial-looking pulpit altar is kept in light colors and dates from the construction period. The pulpit body has a tulip shape . The pulpit altar is adorned with white and black lines. The white altar screen is simple and adorned with a cross.

To the left of the altar is a small table with a crucifix .

organ

The organ in the gallery was built in 1876 by Carl Peters in Neustrelitz .

Bells

There were two bells in the now defunct tower. The larger bell with a diameter of 81 cm was cast by Hackenschmidt in Berlin . The smaller bronze bell with a diameter of 69 cm was cast in 1584 and is decorated with minuscules ; it was expanded in 1918, but could be bought back in 1920 because it had not been melted down.

On the wall to the left of the altar hangs a painting depicting Mary with the baby Jesus. It is one of many copies of the original by Leonardo da Viinci . Next to the painting hang two wreaths in a frame , commemorating a golden wedding from 1861.

Today the village church Strasen belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran parish Wesenberg in the provost Neustrelitz in the parish of Mecklenburg of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany ( North Church ).
