Wilmersdorf village church

The village church of Wilmersdorf stood south of the Angers in the street village Deutsch-Wilmersdorf on the site of today's Auenkirche in the Wilhelmsaue in the Berlin district of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf , district of Wilmersdorf .

history

The parish of Wilmersdorf can be found for the first time in 1293 in a document by Albrecht III. , but it was not until 1375 that a clergyman for the church in Wilmersdorf was named in the land book of Charles IV , who had to take care of the village of Lützow . After Lietzow came to the parish of the current Luisenkirche , the Wilmersdorfer parish supplied those of Schmargendorf and Dahlem . There are no pictures of the old village church. Most of the church registers were lost to looting . In a surviving church account book from January 1, 1713, it is mentioned that the ruined church needs to be repaired.

After a devastating fire in 1766 destroyed half the village including the church and rectory , a plastered masonry structure was built as a simple baroque hall church in 1772 , with a tower clock in the roof tower in 1817 . A commemorative plaque for those who died in the Wars of Liberation was put up.

Since Pastor Ritter's efforts to build an organ were not supported by the congregation, he turned successfully and a. to Friedrich Wilhelm III. and Moritz August von Bethmann-Hollweg . The organ builder Johann Christoph Schröthers from Sonnewalde brought the new organ on December 26th, 1845 and completed its installation on January 10th, 1846.

Today's Auenkirche was built behind the old village church between 1895 and 1897. The village church was demolished in 1898 against the will of the community on higher orders. Only the wind vane with the year 1772 on the stair tower of the rectory of the Auenkirche reminds of them.
