history

A church in Zachow was probably built as early as the 12th century. The age of the village church cannot be precisely dated. However, it is a medieval church in origin , which was built in the Gothic style. In 1721 the building was extensively redesigned and supplemented in the Baroque style.

Exterior design

Gothic gable gable

The main part of the Zachow village church is made of red brick . In the lower area of the nave and the church tower there are partly built-in field stones . A plaster can be seen still in ruins, but for the most part have already been lost, so that the masonry is extensively free.

The west tower has an ogival portal to the west, which was added in the upper area and redesigned so that the entrance has a segmental arch . There are two rectangular panels above the west portal . The sound openings for the bells are shaped like segments. The spire is high. The cross-section of this changes from rectangular to octagonal . The helmet is covered with black slate . The top of the church tower is marked by the ball of the tower and the weather vane .

The ship has large segment arched windows. A south portal is incorporated into a small extension . A Gothic gable on the east wall of the ship is striking . The gable roof of the ship, like the hipped roof of the southern extension, is covered with red beaver tails .

Interior

Inside the church there is a Baroque pulpit altar from 1717. A pastor’s chair is also part of the Baroque era.

Churchyard

The churchyard is still used as a cemetery . Burial sites for the established farming families are typically separated by cast iron fences. A gravestone of Pastor Heinrich Metze from 1746 shows a striking figure decoration.
