Dorival Guidoni Júnior or Doriva for short (born May 28, 1972 in Nhandeara ) is a former Brazilian football player and current coach .
Player career
society
Doriva won the Copa Libertadores , the Supercopa Sudamericana and the World Cup with São Paulo FC in 1993 . The following year he won the Copa Conmebol with his club . After a brief interlude at the third division club EC XV de Novembro , he moved to Atlético Mineiro in 1995 and won the state championship of Minas Gerais in his first season . The midfielder himself did not experience the success of his team at the Copa Conmebol in 1997, since he had switched to the Portuguese club FC Porto for the 1997/98 season . With Porto he won the triple with the national championship, cup and super cup in 1998 . During the winter break of the 1998/99 season, the Brazilian went to the relegation-threatened Italian first division club Sampdoria Genoa and was relegated to Serie B with the club . In the following season Doriva reached fifth place in the table with his club and missed direct promotion. He then moved to the then Spanish first division club Celta Vigo , with whom he won the UEFA Intertoto Cup at the beginning of the season . In the subsequent 2000/01 UEFA Cup he was eliminated with his club in the quarter-finals against FC Barcelona .
In 2003 Doriva was initially awarded for one year to the English first division club Middlesbrough FC . Although he could never really prevail against the biggest competitor in his position, George Boateng , the club signed him permanently after the season. With Middlesbrough Doriva won the English league cup in 2004 and was in the 2006 UEFA Cup final . In the 4-0 defeat in the final against Sevilla FC , however, he was not used. When Gareth Southgate was signed as the new coach, the 34-year-old Brazilian left the club. In his last two stops at América FC and Mirassol FC in Brazil in 2007, the midfielder was no longer used.
National team
Doriva was part of the Brazilian national soccer team between 1995 and 1998 . In 1997 he won the Confederations Cup with the team . He also was part of the squad of the national team at the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France, where his team until the final with 0: 3 lost to the hosts.
