George Gently - The incorruptible (original title: Inspector George Gently or George Gently in the pilot and the first season) is a British television crime series based on the novels by Alan Hunter . The role of Inspector is played by Martin Shaw and Detective Sergeant John Bacchus by Lee Ingleby . The series takes place in the 1960s. The location of the films is in Northumberland and County Durham (extreme north-east coast of England on the border with Scotland ) opposite Norfolk ( east coast ) in the books. Hunter wrote a total of 46 George Gently novels from 1955 to 1999, which were heavily adapted for the TV version.
In January 2017, filming began for the eighth season of the series. The season concluded the 25-part series. On October 30, 2017, BBC One aired the final episode "Gently and the New Age".
action
Inspector George Gently, operating in London in 1964, is one of the few good men at Scotland Yard. Large parts of the police force are increasingly being eaten up by corruption and show little sense of responsibility. George Gently, on the other hand, relentlessly chases the gangsters, including Joe Webster, who does not stop at harming Gently personally. His wife Isabella is run over by a car in front of his eyes on the street and dies. He wants to quit his police service, but is shaken up by a murder case of a young motorcyclist. He then went to the far north of England to solve his last case and put Webster behind bars. Arrived on the northeast coast, he meets the young and ambitious Sergeant Bacchus, with whom he wants to solve the complex case.

Trivia
The special feature of the pilot film is that Martin Shaw and Webster actor Philip Davis face each other again as opponents, as in the very first episode of the series The Professionals ( perfect plan with small mistakes ). At the time, Davis played the young Billy Turner who, armed with a hand grenade, takes a nurse hostage.
