Dortmund knight brewery
The Dortmunder Ritter Brewery was a brewery in Dortmund . The brewery was founded in 1889 as a large-scale industrial brewery. The location was the " Dortmunder Brauereiviertel " west of Dortmund city center between Rheinische Strasse and the railway line, where the Dortmund Union Brewery , the Germania Brewery and the Dortmunder Aktien Brewery had their facilities. Owner of the brewery was originally the Dortmund Breweries Company Ltd . During the First World War , the production facilities of the Ritter Brewery were confiscated as enemy property in 1917. Then the company became a stock corporation .
The company continued to grow through mergers with other local breweries such as the Essen brewery , the Dortmunder Bürgerbräu and the Westfalia brewery in Dortmund. In 1928 an interest group was formed with Glückauf-Brauerei AG in Gelsenkirchen-Ückendorf . Since then, the Ritter brewery has been the largest shareholder in Glückauf-Brauerei AG. After 1945 a new production site was set up in Dortmund-Lütgendortmund .
The knight brewery moved into the newly built brewery on Lütgendortmunder Hellweg in Lütgendortmund in 1969. In 1994 the brewery's independence ended. The local competitor Dortmunder Union-Brauerei , today part of the Radeberger Group of Dr. August Oetker KG , took over the majority of the shares. The brewery in Lütgendortmund has been operating under the name of Dortmund Union-Ritter Brauerei GmbH since 1995. Another renaming took place in 2002. In honor of the first master brewer of the Union Brewery, Fritz Brinkhoff , the brewery was named Brauerei Brinkhoff GmbH . Three years later, the location in Lütgendortmund was shut down in favor of what is now the last industrial Dortmund brewery location in Dortmund's Nordstadt ( DAB , formerly Hansa Brewery).
Dortmund's gold treasure was discovered on the site in 1907 .
In July 2011 work began on demolishing the brewery building.
