The herbaceous cheek clover ( Dorycnium herbaceum ) is a plant species in the subfamily of the butterflies (Faboideae).
description
The herbaceous cheekbones grows as a perennial herbaceous plant and reaches heights of up to 50 centimeters. The upright or prostrate stems are relatively tender. The alternate arranged on the stem leaves appear in five parts, but are made up of three clover-like member leaves and two secondary leaves. The loosely protruding hairy partial leaves are up to 6 mm wide and up to 18 mm long.
Twelve to 25 flowers are united in a head-shaped inflorescence . The flower stalk is short. The hermaphrodite flowers are zygomorphic , 5 to 7 mm long and five-fold with a double flower envelope . The sparsely haired calyx is up to 2 mm long. The five white petals form a corolla with the typical shape of the petals. The narrow legume has a length of up to 4.5 mm and is wrinkled in the longitudinal direction.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 14.
Occurrence
The herbaceous baking clover grows on road embankments, forest edges and dry meadows. Often you can see many stems standing close together. The distribution ranges from the hill level to the lower montane level.
In Central Europe it thrives in societies of the order Origanetalia, in southern Europe in those of the order Rosmarinetalia.
Taxonomy
Dorycnium herbaceum is considered by some authors as a subspecies of Dorycnium pentaphyllum Scop. understood: Currently recognized name is Dorycnium pentaphyllum subsp. herbaceum (Vill.) Rouy .
