Dota (until 2013: Dota und die Stadtpiraten or Die Kleinggelprinzessin und die Stadtpiraten ) is a band around the Berlin singer and songwriter Dota (Dorothea) Kehr . The lyrics are time-sensitive, the music is heavily influenced by bossa nova and jazz . The band's musicians are Berlin jazz musicians .
The group has so far rejected record contracts as well as appearances at party events. The records are now sold through BuschFunk and Broken Silence , but they are still produced in-house. In October 2006 the group gave five concerts in Russia at the invitation of the Goethe Institute , and in spring 2009 toured New Zealand .
In 2008 the band received the best song list award . In 2011, Dota Kehr was also awarded the sponsorship prize of the city of Mainz as part of the awarding of the German Cabaret Prize.
In 2013 the band decided to drop the name “Stadtpiraten” and only perform as “Dota”.
