Doug Beason
James Douglas Beason (born December 3, 1953 ) is an American science fiction writer, physicist and former officer in the US Air Force . He wrote several of his short stories and most of his novels in collaboration with Kevin J. Anderson .
Life
Beason studied at the United States Air Force Academy , where he earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics and physics in 1977 . Further degrees were a Masters in Physics followed by a PhD from the University of New Mexico and a Masters in National Resource Strategy from the National Defense University . He then served as an officer in the US Air Force for 24 years, during which time he worked at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory , taught at the US Air Force Academy, and was a defense and space advisor to various US government bodies .
Beason published his first short story in 1984 with Beguiled . The two novels Return to Honor (1989) and Assault on Alpha Base (1990) are techno thrillers . The following novels, co-authored with Kevin J. Anderson, Lifeline (1990), The Trinity Paradox (1991) and Assemblers of Infinity (1993) are closer to SF. The novels in the Craig Kreident series are techno thrillers on the fringes of SF.
Assemblers of Infinity was nominated for the Nebula Award in 1994. The Trinity Paradox was nominated for the American Physical Society's Forum Award . He received the National Defense University President's Strategic Vision Award for his book DOD Science and Technology: Strategy for the Post-Cold War Era .
Beason most recently served as Associate Laboratory Director in the Threat Reduction department at Los Alamos National Laboratorys . In 2008 he retired. Since then he has been a full-time author. He lives in Colorado .
