Douglas Rayner Hartree
Douglas Rayner Hartree (born March 27, 1897 in Cambridge , England ; † February 12, 1958 there ) was an English mathematician and physicist. Most important were his work in numerical analysis with applications in atomic physics and the development of the Hartree-Fock method .
Life
In 1926 he received his doctorate under Ernest Rutherford at the University of Cambridge . In 1929 he became a professor at the University of Manchester and in 1946 at Cambridge. In 1932 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society .
