Dovški križ is a mountain in the Julian Alps in Slovenia with an altitude of 2542 m. i. J.
Location and surroundings
The rocky mountain belongs to the Martuljek Group ( Martuljške gore ) in the Triglav National Park . In the north lies the valley of the Sava , in the south-east the mountain drops over 1600 meters deep into the Vrata valley. Neighboring peak in the west is the 2628 m high Veliki Oltar , in the northeast the ridge continues to the 2458 m high Škrnatarica and the 2427 m high Kukova Špica .
To the north-east of the summit is a closed cirque called Amfiteater , the upper regions of which are often covered with firn all year round . The rugged south side of Dovški križ is characterized by rubble heaps and alpine mats .
Alpinism
The normal route to Dovški križ is an unmarked ascent over the south side. It leads from Poldov rovt 900 m in the Vrata valley over a 2118 m high bivouac box in difficulty level I (UIAA) to the summit.
The north ascent runs from Martuljek in the Savetal ( 750 m ) on marked and partially insured climbs to a bivouac box at 1340 m and from there, unmarked, through a steep couloir called Jugova grapa . It has difficulties in UIAA grade I and slopes in the firn of up to 50 °. This ascent is also possible as a demanding ski tour . Another route is the transition from the neighboring summit Škrnatarica in difficulty level II. A climbing route in level IV + leads through the northwest face.
